Hi, I’m Nikki and when I’m not running my clinic, keeping fit
and doing “stuff” that mum’s do, my 2 sporty daughters keep me busy.
Female health, wellness and fitness is really something I’m involved with all the time, from puberty to peri-menopause our house has it all! But that’s not always been the case.
Believe it or not, although I’ve been involved in sport and exercise all my life and have always had a real interest in nutrition and how the human body works, I worked for over 10 years in the corporate world as a Senior Training Consultant and I was lucky enough to work with some great companies such as Glaxo-Smithkline, Boots Healthcare and Shell to name but a few.
The project life was fast, furious, stressful but fun and being part of a successful team was so important to me. Being the best was all part of the implementation process and a successful IT implementation was vital, from conceptualization to the end user training our team needed to perform so the business succeeded. In order for me to be the best I could, I trained in the gym and made sure I ate the best I could and avoided the usual temptations that crept in whilst on project…. the pizza, curry and drinks out!!! Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t a recluse or loud mouth healthy eating advocate but I worked quietly in the background, setting an example to my colleagues. After all, I needed to do the best I could and good health and wellness was the only way ensure that.
It was during this period that I began to take an interest in workplace injuries such as neck and back pain, stress, lack of exercise and how they affected women’s health. I took up a variety of study programmes and gained a variety of health, therapy & fitness qualifications and began running small group exercise and nutrition workshops in my spare time.
Fast forward a few years, 2 daughters later, major back surgery and fighting the symptoms of peri-menopause I began studying again for my Doctorate in Osteomyology, a tough call but so worth it. Osteomyology is a truly holistic system of health care and encourages the safe and skilled use of a variety of therapeutic techniques such as massage, acupuncture, reflexology, aromatherapy, spinal and pelvic articulation, nutritional therapy, counseling, coaching and much more in order to get to the root cause of presenting symptoms, help restore balance and encourage the healing process.
I have suffered just like you with injuries, age related issues, pelvic floor issues and general “women’s stuff” and have a real passion for helping women overcome the challenges that each life stage throws at them. I truly believe that through being open, honest and having candid conversations we can overcome some of the taboos in women’s health and improve our understanding of what can and does go wrong, and how to improve our vitality as we go through life.
