What is Osteomyology?

As our late founder Sir Dr Alan Clemens states;

quote

Osteomyology is a truly holistic system of health care and encourages the safe and skilled use of a variety of therapeutic techniques that may help to get to the root cause of presenting symptoms, help restore balance and encourage the healing process.

certificated-mark1-204x300Osteomyology is now widely recognised as a treatment for aches and pains such as arthritic pain, generalised back pain (not arising from injury or accident), sciatica, joint and rheumatic pain; uncomplicated mechanical neck pain (as opposed to neck pain following whiplash); headache arising from the neck/migraine prevention; muscle spasms; neuralgia; frozen/shoulder pain and tennis elbow arising from associated musculoskeletal conditions of the back and neck; circulatory and digestive problems; cramp; fibromyalgia; sports injuries and tensions and inability to relax.

What to Expect when you come into Clinic

Usually initial appointments take between 60 – 75mins because it is really important for me to piece together as much information I can so I can help you. I’m also quite nosey, after all, it is my job to find out as much as I can about you, your health and your injury. However, I also appreciate that sometimes, it can be painful or uncomfortable to open up and I will never expect a patient to divulge information that is unnecessary to the treatment.

Throughout your appointment I will be trying to get a complete picture of you as a person, when and why your health started to go wrong. By understanding the true cause of the injury (which may have been something like a car

accident 20 or 30 years ago), it can be treated, which is so much more effective than simply treating the symptoms.  To help me along the way, you will be asked to perform some simple movements and I will feel for any points where pain, weakness or excessive strain is present in your body.  I will also take your blood pressure and test your reflexes before using the most suitable massage, rhythmic joint movement, stretching and gentle release techniques.  Some Osteomyology adjustments may be used during the treatment, which are gentle and only used when it is completely necessary.

The examination and treatment are both very gentle and all parts of the body are considered,

because the cause of a problem is often some way away from the area of the symptoms. For example, do not be surprised if you come in for headaches and find me spending a great deal of time releasing stresses and strains in your pelvis!

I believe that it is important for my patients to fully understand what is happening with their bodies and you take responsibility for your healing.  We work in partnership, so I will also advise on nutrition, lifestyle, posture and exercise to aid your recovery and you will usually be given some exercises and nutritional information to help continue your treatment at home in-between appointments.

What should you wear?

You will probably be asked to undress down to your underwear for the examination. Undressing like this is not always necessary on subsequent visits, but loose clothing is easier and more comfortable for us to work with than heavy tight jeans and thick belts.  If you wear contact lenses, please could you wear your glasses to Clinic as it will be more comfortable for you during the treatment.

Note:

Sometimes it may be necessary for me to refer you to other professionals including your GP, Consultant or other specialist so you receive the relevant treatment you require to get you back to being healthy and well.
